When my son was 2 years old I found out I was expecting another baby that would be born right about Christmas time. I was so excited to tell my husband and son the good news!
I picked up a greeting card for my husband, one that talked about him getting to be a Daddy again, and planned to take my boys out for lunch and tell them about the baby!
When we arrived at the restaurant the hostess seated us and the waitress came to take our orders. My son wanted his favorite, the kids cheese pizza with black olives. After our orders were taken I pulled out the card and gave it to my husband. As he read it, his face just beamed, "Are you serious? We're having another baby? What an awesome Christmas present!" He was so excited!
We turned to our son, who was coloring on his menu, and said excitedly to him, "Carter, you're going to get a baby brother or sister for Christmas!" To which he pouted and loudly replied, "I wanted pizza!"
Making it Real
We've all felt that feeling of getting a gift that we didn't really want, just like my son in this story. Just remember that the person who gave you the gift truly thought you would be blessed by it, so be thankful and gracious and receive the gift as the blessing it was meant to be or else you may really hurt the person who gave it to you.
I'll let you in on a secret...
